Contemporary villa garden in Mallorca at night with uplit trees, reflecting pools and in-ground lights

Garden lighting for Mallorca’s villas, fincas and terraces

Lightsource Mallorca designs, specifies and supplies outdoor lighting for the way the island is lived: long evenings on the terrace, olive trees against a night-blue sky, a pool that glows rather than glares.

Outdoor lighting in Mallorca

Light the garden you actually live in after dark.

In Mallorca the garden is half the house. Summer dinners start at nine, guests drift between the pool and the terrace, and the view from the living room after sunset is often of the garden itself. Good garden lighting makes all of that work: safe steps and paths, a terrace with real atmosphere, and planting that becomes a quiet, layered picture at night.

We combine lighting design with product supply from specialist outdoor brands. That means one partner from the first site visit to the night you switch it on, whether you are building a new finca, renovating a village house or refreshing the garden of a rental villa.

Spaces we light

Every part of a Mediterranean garden, lit with intent.

Lighting a garden well is about choosing what to reveal and what to leave in shadow. These are the areas we plan most often on the island.

Built for the island

Designed for the Mediterranean, not borrowed from a northern catalogue.

Many garden lighting ideas are developed for lawns, hedges and grey skies. Mallorca asks for something different: fittings that cope with salt air, intense summer sun, winter storms and hard irrigation water, and lighting that respects the island’s night sky.

  • Materials chosen for coastal plots: stainless steel, brass, copper and properly coated aluminium.
  • Warm white light (typically 2700K) that flatters stone, terracotta and planting.
  • Shielded, aimed fittings that keep light on the garden, not in the sky or the neighbour’s bedroom.
  • Low-voltage systems where they make sense, with installation by an authorised electrician.

Garden lighting plan for a Mallorca finca showing fixture positions around olive, carob and citrus trees
Extract from one of our garden lighting plans for a new-build finca in Mallorca.

From survey to switch-on

A real lighting plan, not a box of lights.

For a recent new-build finca we surveyed the plot during construction, then produced a full garden lighting plan: more than a hundred fixtures placed around olives, carobs, almonds, citrus, palms and the pool, each with its own purpose, beam and glare control.

Every plan comes with a fixture schedule, transformer and cable sizing, control zones and clear notes for the electrician and landscaper.

Garden lighting questions we hear in Mallorca

Do you install garden lighting as well as design it?

We design, specify and supply. Installation is carried out by your electrician or landscaper, or by local installers we work with regularly, and we brief them with a full plan. Fixed outdoor installations in Spain should be carried out by an authorised electrician (instalador autorizado).

Is 12V or 230V better for a garden in Mallorca?

Most planting, path and tree lighting works beautifully on a 12V low-voltage system such as in-lite, which is safer around people and water and easy to extend. Larger façades, long driveways and some architectural fittings are better on 230V. Many gardens use both; we will recommend the right mix in your plan.

How much does garden lighting cost?

It depends on the size of the garden, the number of zones and the products chosen. After the first site visit we give you a concept with a budget range, so you can decide on scope before the detailed plan.

Can I control the lighting from my phone?

Yes. Smart systems such as in-lite’s SMART HUB let you schedule, dim and switch zones from an app, and can link to smart-home platforms. This is especially useful for second homes and rental villas.

Will the lights survive salt air and summer sun?

Only if they are chosen for it. We specify materials, finishes and IP ratings for your exact location, from a sheltered inland finca to a seafront terrace, and advise on simple twice-yearly maintenance.

Can you work with my architect or landscape designer?

Yes. We often join a project at plan stage so that cable ducts, power points and fixture positions are built in before the paving and planting go down.
